Michelle Nixon Heads to Music City
January 28, 2005

Richmond, VA - Pinecastle Records recording artist Michelle Nixon will head to Nashville, Tennessee next week to participate in the Society for the Preservation of Bluegrass Music of America (SPBGMA) convention and awards ceremony.

SPBGMA [spig-ma] is generally known as the fan choice awards of bluegrass music. Bluegrass enthusiasts get to cast their votes first by blank ballot to narrow down the top six slots in each category and second by attending the convention to vote for their favorite of the chosen six. The convention, held the first weekend in February, is a wonderful way for fans, artists and industry professionals to rub elbows and enjoy in their common denominator of bluegrass music.

Nixon and her band Drive are nominated for Album of the Year for their Pinecastle Records release "It's My Turn". Nixon is also nominated for Female Vocalist of the Year (traditional) and Entertainer of the Year. "We really enjoy SPBGMA because it is about the fans, our bluegrass family, those that support us and allow us to live our musical dream", Nixon commented. "Chuck [Stearman] does a great job on the event and we're excited to be a part of it".

Nixon will attend the convention February 3 - 6 to meet and greet with fans from all over the world and, along with Drive, will perform on Friday evening, February 4th at 8:00 and Sunday morning, February 6th at 11:30. The group will also perform at different locations within the convention including the booth of Grand Ole Opry star Tom T. Hall and wife Dixie Hall as well as that of Bluegrass Music Profiles magazine on which Nixon will be the cover artist for the magazine's March/April issue.

Fans attending SPBGMA will get a sneak preview of the latest Michelle Nixon & Drive project due out in April. The CD, titled "What More Should I Say?", is Nixon's second, all new release on Pinecastle Records and includes songs written by Nixon, Bill Anderson, Drive member Patrick Robertson and others. The first single off of the project, due out in mid February, is "I Know Rain", written by Tom T. and Dixie Hall.
