(IBN) - Vancouver Island, BC, Canada
Michelle
Nixon was raised in rural Virginia. She cut her teeth on Country
Music as a young performer with the band, Slate River. In
time, her reputation as a country singer earned her accolades
throughout the state. Her interest in bluegrass music came
about after a chance meeting with Vernon Hughes and Clyde
Bailey at a local festival about a dozen years ago. Michelle's
musical life took a somewhat radical change at that time as
she literally tuned her heartstrings to the 'bluegrass G'.
Michelle settled down to study the musical styling of early
singers and their unique instrumentation. She realized that
it was this combination that set American Bluegrass Music
into a category of its own. It was music that she wanted to
help preserve. Perhaps that is why she seems so comfortable
with the exciting band "Drive'. While this group explores
the cutting edge of today's bluegrass music they also show
their wonderful sensitivity to traditional standards. The
band consists of Vernon Hughes, Jim Green, Justen Haynes,
Eddie Shifflett, and Jason Davis. These guys are 'perculatin'
pickers personified'. Add the dynamic voice of Michelle Nixon
to this musical mix and you come up with a CD for the bluegrass
lover that has everything. I almost bet that if you scratched
a phonograph needle across the innards of my new van, you'd
get every note of this fabulous recording. Get on the bandwagon
folks as' this group is going uptown'
